How To Install Apache, MYSQL And PHP (Lamp) On Centos

Recently my laptop was having some issue, and send to hewlett packet service center for repair. Due to no computer use, and kinda free at office, I decide to continue setup a linux base web server which is in my wish list long time ago. (As mention on free antivirus for linux operating system).

I have download Centos 5.2 (www.centos.org) few month ago, also try to install it and experience it, but not much time to really put my self in study on Linux base operating system. After install centos linux base operation system, now I require web server script, Apache, web programming script, PHP, and a database script,MySql. So how to install all this script? I found a easy way to install Linux Apache MySql PHP (LAMP) using Yum command. Just simple 5 step to fully setup your own web server.

How to install Apache using Yum command:

Open Terminal, type in ” yum install httpd “, the command will instruct the centos to download apache web server and install it into the server.

How to install MySql using Yum command:

After install Apache Web Server, now we require to install MySql database. Type in ”yum install mysql-server mysql “, this command will download MySql dabatase into the server and install it.

How to install PHP using Yum command:

Once finish install MySql server script, lastly, we need to install PHP programming script by type in ” yum install php ” it will download php script and install into the linux server.

After finish install Apache, MySql and PHP, now we require to start the Apache Web Server service and MySql database service.

Optional Method: You can install Apache, MySql and PHP into centos together with using ” yum install httpd php mysql-server mysql ” command, after hit enter, you can sit a side wait for all this 3 script install into your Linux Web Server.

How to start Apache web server:

Simply type in ” service httpd start ” in the terminal, and the service will be activated.

How to start MySql database service:

To start the MySql server, type in ” service mysqld start ” in the terminal, and MySql service is ready to use. You can create a database, create table, and create record using MySql command line at the terminal.

How to test the Web Server and ensure it is running?
After both Apache Web server and MySql database is start running, now we open a internet explorer, access “http://localhost/” or “http://127.0.0.1” and you will see a welcome page!

The root directory for the web server will be located at ” var/www/html “, you can try to create an index.html, save it at ” var/www/html “, you will saw this webpage when you access “ http://localhost/ ” or “ http://127.0.0.1/ ”

How to test the Web Server and ensure it is running on the network?
If you are in the network environment, you can use the other computer within the network, and access the web server IP address. For example, the web server local IP address is 192.168.1.5, you can use other computer within the network to access ” http://192.168.1.5 “, you will see the welcome page or the index.html you create in ” var/www/html ” at the web server.

Ok, is time for me to play around the web server, will keep you guys posted if I found any special during my hand on experience.

Windows Run Command

Did you use windows run command? As a normal user point of view, command and short cut key are very difficult to use, mostly prefer using mouse to click, but when you become a good friend to your computer, command and short cut key help a lot in daily job.

For example, I always like to use ms paint to do some simple editing, to open a paint, I need to click on start button, go to program, then Accessories, only I can found the Paint program there.

Now with using run command, I just require to click start, run, and key in mspaint, then hit Ok

Tips: Some Windows Vista does not have “RUN” button when click on start button, to open run, simply press windows button on your keyboard and press R, the run box will come out already.

Other then this, I experience before few time when looking for some application such as “hyperterminal” in the computer, it does not located in the correct place. If you don’t mind extra step, can go into C drive, one by one folder search, but with using run comand, just type “hypertrm“, hola, it come out already.

Hide File Under Your JPG Image

This is a simple trick to hide your file under the Jpeg image. if you have any confidential file, you able to hide it and save it into pen drive to transfer. Once people steal your file, they have no idea to open. I get know this trick from a blog name Cypherhackz.net

1. Prepare a Jpeg image (Hello.jpg), a document that you need to hide (confidential data. txt), i put both of this file in to a folder call “testing” under C drive
2. 
3. Zip the both file, name it as zip
   
4. Open a Comman prompt , go to the director ( C:/testing/>), type this “copy /b hello.jpg + zip.zip iCalvyn.jpg”
   
5. You will found a new image name iCalvyn. jpg apear, this file contain the both of the image hello. jpg and confidential data. text insite. To open it, open this image iCalvyn. jpg with winzip, you will get the file in site.
6. 
7. Complete, so just send this iCalvyn.jpg to the target audience. Once people obtain this image, he/she does not know what is actually hide behind.

Your PC Performance

Already 2 night i did not sleep well, my company server have some minor issue and unstable since Friday night. I need to dail-in there to monitor on the server status.

My server act weird since friday night, the network are slow, the application on workstation are running slow while transaction. When Saturday morning, everything goes normal and my phone are quite,no call from hotel, i have a peacefully saturday and having my shopping nicely. Nearly evening, the morning shift duty manager have sms me, said that the system are well.

Same as saturday night,very peaceful, no call from my company, and i was having my VCD at home till 2am, since next day are sunday ma, noneed work. Who knows sunday morning 8am get a urgent call, said that the system was down on morning 5am… Damm!!! no life for my sunday. So i have ask them to contact the application support personel and they dail in to indexing (some thing like defrag) the system, it take quite long time to do, normally it took 45Min, but today it took 1 and half hour. After indexing still the same, some more worst, the application cannot run at the workstation, totallay cant load at all.

All the GSA (Guest Service Relation) are panic when the system slow, the guest start to make noice with the slow check in and check out. Some more this moning the system down, they need to do manually. Really pity them lo~ some time get scold by those “non understanding stupid” guest.

I have no choice, support on phone also cant solve the issue, so i need to go there and see what can i do. (Sunday working, no Ove time, no allowance and no…nothing, suck benefit)

How to check your PC performance
Previously when i dail-in on morning, i saw the performance in WINDOWS TASK MANAGER are act weired (my server). The percentage are very high. so how i check the system performance, just right click behind start menu, go to TASK MANAGER

Click on the performance tab, you will see the CPU Usage and PF Usage. Last time when my academic time, one of my teacher told us, the Commit Charge (blue circle)Â must not more then Physical Memory (red circle). Commit charge are the current load program that occupied your RAM and the Physical memory are the memory you have.

Once your Commit Charge more the the Physical Memory, your PC will start slow down. You also able to see which program occupied the RAM by click on processes tab, at the list of program, Mem Usage (blue circle) are the memory occupied by certain program or application

For my case (all the picture are my home PC, not Company server), the Rtvscan.exe current consume 39MB of RAM, if i feel not neccessary there, just click End Process, the program are out. But remember that not all process able to end, once end some needed process, the PC will shut down within 30second. If not mistaken is the svhost.exe

On the other hand, if you see the CPU Usage at performance tab are high, some time near 90% to 100%, your PC are very lack and hang. you also able to check which application use the most at the processes tab, the CPU (Yellow Circle) show the number, normally it will be 99 on those application that consume most CPU Usage

Back to my case
When i arrive company, the indexing is just finish, but the application at workstation are still cant load… slow like hell. At this moment, a light bulb apear in my mind, imediate i shut down all server, plug out the power cable (to ensure no electrict and the memory buffer able to release), same to my switches, close the power, wait for 5 minute and restart everything. That all, everything goes fine after that.

IÂ back to the Performance tab at TASK MANAGER, the CPU usage are still high, suspected are some spyware in there, occupied the CPU Usage. Damm, loss my whole morning there.

Clear IE Password

Few week back, once of my top level management personel face a problem when login webmail, the password always auto apear after she key in the UserName, example i key in “it” and the password automatic apear, that mean the password have been remember in the particular PC.

Do you feel funny??? there was no “remember me” check box for me to tick…Â

After i consult with some IT friend, they teach me to upgrade the IE to ver.7, then the password will be erase. Today, i use this method, but it did’t help much.

How to erase the password? for IE ver6
I have call my senior at KL, he advice me to check at the Internet option, at content tab click on AutoComplete then look for the Clear Password

The way are almost the same, go to Internet Option, directly at General Tab, clickdelete, then at the password column, click delete password

Yup, that the easy way… few week back, the PC are still in IE ver6, so i did not know how to delete the password, i just clear the cache and Internet Temporary File.

Althought when i went to the top management office, there are very presure and anytime will eat bullet, but today, i learn another new thing lo… at least gain some knowledge

Few thing i always headache on when i went to friend house, or travels or using other people PC:

This software actually give me a lots of convenience, just bought a high capacity PenDrive and you can store a lot of application there. Keep your book mark and all your email there.

With using this software, i can bring my favorites or bookmark and also my email application any where and over my above problem.

PortableApps come with few package, Standard (approximate 90MB), Lite (31MB) , and Base (1MB)

Download either 1 package that suitable you, plug in your PenDrive and install it. For beginner, i suggest you download Base Edition, just a normal package without ant program include, and you are advice to download the application you need atPortableApps Directory

• Standard Edition include: ClamWin Portable (antivirus), Mozilla Firefox – Portable Edition (web browser), Gaim Portable (instant messaging), OpenOffice.org Portable (office suite), Sudoku Portable (puzzle game), Mozilla Sunbird – Portable Edition (calendar/task manager) and Mozilla Thunderbird – Portable Edition (email client) and runs comfortably from a 512MB drive.

My 2 cent: I like this program because it can store all the favorites URL, and also tun my email application, i found difficulties when i download all the email to my home PC and can’t access on other PC

My Advice: When u started use this PortableApps, remember to constantly backup your date. This is due to may be some happening to your PenDrive such as data loss or PenDrive failure.

Special: Check it out, Mac-on-Stick, this is quite interesting. Run MAC OS on your windows platform.

Solution To Create Folder Name Con

Try to create a folder name “CON” or “con”… and see what is happening if your PC platform are windows.

I saw this article from Yapkevin.com , it mention that we are unable to create folder name CON and i feel curious, I start to googling and look for explanation…at last, i found that still have a lot of word unable to create such as

CON, PRN, AUX, CLOCK$, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, and LPT9

The reason is those name are reserved for ‘DOS’ device names…

There also some tips and trick to create this kind of folder, just open a MS-DOS

to create type -> md c:\con\

to delete type -> rd c:\con\

The folder are create, and it is unable to rename it, once i rename it, it shows “error renaming file or folder”

I found that when we create any picture such as jpeg or bmp file with CON as the file name, it also shows error, below are the error when i try to save the jpg file as CON

This is just some tips and trick to create the folder name CON and also PRN, AUX, CLOCK$, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, and LPT9

Imageshack is once of the online Picture sharing service. I use this service long long time ago when my Uni time, my course mate, CheinYean, who introduce me this service when we are doing our HTML web design subject.

ImageShack actually have a problem when u upload the picture, after you sign in, you must upload the picture one by one, if i have 10 picture, i need to upload 10 times by click:

Well, I encounter this problem for quite some time, always disconnect while sign in MSN. and some of my friend asking me“Calvyn, what are you doing, in and out… trying to promote your self?”

Recently once of my buddy, Dave Corner who having a solution to prevent this happen. I have try it, it really helps.

If you are having problems with your msn, where you tried repairing and everything is working fine but you still cannot sign in because they say service is not available or prompt you an error code 80004007. Then, it’s means that part of your Messenger client cache may be corrupted.

To attempt to fix, close down Messenger if it’s running, click Start, then Run, and type the following:

%userprofile%\contacts

and click OK.

If nothing appears in the folder, click the Tools menu, then Options, then View tab, click ‘Show hidden files or folders’ and click OK. Once you are able to see the folders, right-click the one that corresponds to your Passport and choose Delete.

Next, click Start, then Run, and type the following:

%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts

Then remove the corresponding folder again in this folder.
Then restart Messenger and try signing in again.

Reminded if you are worry on your data, please do a backup on the file before you delete. This is an ADVICE from IT Engineer.

Clear Windows Login Password

Beginning of this week, me and my “Sifu” (senior colleague) went to a client company for IT support, and my Sifu pass me a laptop, he said if the user forgot the windows login password. Ask me to find solution (my assignment)

Wow, such a deep question here,

Me: Sifu~ totally unable to login windows, how to clear it?

Until today, I found few solution, and still testing it. Here have some action to show, but cant solve my problem yet, becouse this method is do it went you are already in windows. (sad..but not the solution for my assignment )

Click Start -> Run -> type cmd (Open a Command Prompt)

Type C:\> net user

You will see the available user in your PC

To clear that particular user password

Type C:\> net user username password (example like above)

Above picture, i have change iCalvyn password to 11223344

The above method are not apply to what I looking at. This method are useful provided that you already login in to the windows, but for my case, i am not able to login in to windows yet.

How to Use Logmein Remote Access

As an IT Engineer, I need to provide 1st level technical support to my end user. Some how, the user are not next to me, which located in different location or different stage or even different country.

Guiding him/her through the phone are easy, if the person have some technical knowledge, but what if the person is IT dummy? Just like a chicken communicate with duck. For this case, I require to use remote access software, log in to their computer and help them troubleshoot their problem.

Remote access software is one of the good tools for technical support to solve the end user problem easily. Normally I will use RealVNC at my office, but problem is this software require port redirect/ port forwarding setting at the destination router, different router different setting, and also hard to guide the user do the setting at their router via phone call, this is not a easy use remote access software.

How to use LogMeIn remote access software? some people said is very troublesome, and it take many step to start using this LogMeInremote access software. In my opinion, it is very easy to use this remote access software, with few correct step. This is why I try to compile the step by step using logMeIn.com for any one who need to use this service.

LOGMEIN CLIENT SIDE INSTALLATION

Let start at Target workstation first, or we call it as destination workstation, the computer which I need to login in (My Client Computer)

1) My client (Target) need to access http://www.logmein.com

2) Click on “Download LogMeIn for free” (For 1st time user only)

3) My client require to register for LogMeIn website, the email & password must be know by me later, so that my side able to log in the destination computer with this email as login ID.

4) After sign up LogMeIn, it will prompt out the download page

5) You require to download the file, click “Download Now”

6) You may choose to download the software and run it later, or can choose “open” and “run” now

7) The process of the installation on this software started.

8) Put in the description, this description represent the targetworkstation/destination workstation. You may install this software at different computer, and set different name in your account.

9) My client require to put in this access code, while I log in at my computer later, I will require this put access code.

One the installation done, you login back to the LogMeIn website, you will see your computer with the description (Step you key in just now appear there.

Okie, that all for client side, you can sit a side and watch this magic show.

10) Oh ya, you actually require to check your email, activate the link, to start using this LogMeIn service. If without activate it, I am unable to login your computer later on.

LOGMEIN REMOTE SIDE (SUPPORT SIDE)

1) For my side (Remote side), is more easier then destination side, no need to install any file or download any file, just access into LogMeIn.com, login with the detail provide by my client ( email and password key in while register at LogmeIn client side installation step 3 above)

After login, you will see as what your client can see:

2) Click on the description (computer name set by your client at LogMeIn client side installation step 8 above). Connecting will start…

3) It will require me to put in the access code (obtain from my client), as perLogMeIn client side installation step 9.

4) Click on the remote control link

5) I am now success login into my client PC

Ops… client side will be shock, why the cruser can move it self? Have ghost? … Haha, this is so call magic for dummy user.
